A quick scan of the headlines shows that fraud touches many aspects of our economy. Workers’ compensation is no exception.
Fraud committed by claimants, health care providers and employers steals millions from the workers’ compensation system and honest employers every year.
Texas Mutual Insurance Company works hard to stamp out fraud with an experienced staff of full-time investigators. Two of them, Victoria Quintana and William Muhr, recently earned certification from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
“Among other things, as investigators, this certification enhances our credibility when testifying in a case,” said Tim Riley, manager of special investigations at Texas Mutual Insurance Company.
“The information in the exam study materials reinforces lessons learned from practical experience. This designation is a goal for all of our investigators,” said Riley.
That is good news for policyholders. In 2007, Riley’s team saved more than $4.2 million by stopping injured workers who tried to cheat the system. It forged into 2008 just as committed to protecting your premium dollars.
